December 2020 Move
Rated 1 out of 5

I hired Colonial Van Lines for my cross-state move in December 2020 – and what an epic mistake it proved to be! First, I read reviews that were positive and now I’m left questioning the validity of them based on my horrible experience. I believe their sales rep Diana Morillo made false and misleading statements about their services and provided a high-ball cost estimate that proved to be negligently inaccurate. Their first cost estimate was off by 88% and their final contract stated cost that was supported by specific items lists and pictures was off by 56%. Colonial denies being a broker, but I found their national moving “fleet” consists of 3 leased semi-trailer and a few local haul box trucks on FMCSA.gov site. Colonial hired an “agent” for my move, which is what a broker would do, called GHSS New York , out of NY, which proved to be an even worse company that tried to run a scam on me. They never showed up for 4 consecutive days.
Their driver named K…347-316-9437, who turned out to be extremely unstable, irrational, and unethical, never showed up and pretended to be Colonial Van Lines.
I. Do yourself a huge favor and learn from my epic mistake of hiring Colonial.
DO NOT USE!!! STAY AWAY! I was trying to use this company moving from New York to Florida and it was one awful thing after another. This was a horrible experience from beginning to end. The customer service was awful. I was ignored. Emails were not responded to. Calls were not returned. When a supervisor (Kean Smith) finally called me, he promised to call me the next day with an update, but failed to do so. When I finally got him on the phone again, he was hostile instead of apologetic.
This company is HORRIBLE. The people that work for this company are HORRIBLE! Everything was HORRIBLE! If I could give this company zero stars, I would. There are not enough terrible things I can say about colonial Van lines.
I have received my refund from the company for breaching the contract. I supposed to start my job on the Jan 4th, did not happen.. I suffered many additional expenses due to Colonia Van Lines negligence.

My move was a success

used Colonial Van Lines to move my wife and myself from Alabama to a home we consider a place of retirement. I am ex-Air Force and have moved six times in my military career. All of those experiences pale in comparison to the exceptional service received from Colonial Van Lines. The agent was very professional and helpful. Everything was explained upfront, including the process and cost. The biggest take from this move was the communication process. I received preparation checklists for before and after the move. The delivery driver called me before, during, and before the delivery of my household goods. The moving team is nothing short of exceptional. A rating of 5 out of 5 is rating these guys too low. They took great care of my belongings; cardboard boxes were taped to my floor to avoid damages (there are pictures below). They were professional, prompt, organized, and efficient. I received follow-up calls to ensure my move was a success.

We Googled for the best moving companies and we contacted two separate ones. Since Colonial had the better price, we decided to use them. Everything went perfectly and the movers were very efficient. They communicated with us on what they were doing and it was well done. Also, I talked to several different people through the company and everyone I talked to was very helpful and very kind. The cost of their service was good, too.

My wife found Colonial Van Lines and we were attracted by their responsiveness and their estimate. Setting the process up went very well. And then, all the timing worked out. They reached out a couple of times in the interim there, and then both came and delivered our items when they said they would.

The rep and I went through and talked about everything that I was moving and he was good about suggesting things that people typically forgot, which was the case for me. He was very good. They wrapped up furniture but not packing boxes. I did all of the packing. The moving crew was great. The lady said that they would pick me up on the 15th and then deliver me some time between the 17th and the 22nd. Then the movers came up and said they could move me in on the 16th if I wanted to drive out there that day. So they picked me up on Sunday and delivered me on Monday. It was literally an overnight thing. So I was very, very pleased with that.
